This is a dwarf, tropical species from Brazil, known for its small size (3–5 inches tall) and large, eye-catching flowers. It naturally grows on trees in dry coastal areas. The thick leaves often show red or purple spotting when the plant receives adequate light.

  • Light: Very bright, indirect light is required for best flowering. Provide strong filtered sun, avoiding intense, scorching midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm. Maintain temperatures in the range of 68-86°F (20-30°C), with a slight dip at night.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high (50-85%). High humidity requires excellent air movement to ensure the plant dries quickly and stays healthy.
  • Watering: Water heavily during active growth, but the roots must dry completely between waterings. This orchid is best grown mounted or in a very coarse, fast-draining mix.

Additional Notes

This species produces one to three large, waxy, and fragrant flowers (up to 4 inches across) on new growths. The sepals and petals display an attractive and unique coloration pattern with distinctive markings, that creates a striking visual appeal.
